Welcome to Carvers Stoneworks. My name is Chris Beaton and I have been carving soapstone for 10 years in the traditional Inuit style. I work to capture the essence of the animal rather than the detailed realistic representation. A piece normally takes from 30 - 40 hours to complete. All pieces are wet sanded using 320, 400 and 600 grit sandpaper and then coated with a protective finish. The Inukshuks are constructed from individual soapstone pieces that are hand polished and assembled in a similar fashion to which real Inukshuks are constructed by the Inuit in Northern Canada. All can be mounted on a base if desired. Larger Inukshuks are available by requests. All carvings can be viewed on the Carvings Page. We can also supply you with soapstone for your own carvings. Numerous sizes and types of soapstone are available. See the Soapstone Page to find out about available product.
